Project: A Good Leader Is a Self Aware Leader

Project: A Good Leader Is a Self Aware Leader

Q Background How many of you in this course are physicians? Unless there is something about you that I do not know, none of you. Individuals with terminal degrees (MD, pH D, and so on) have worked very hard to achieve their success. They have made financial and personal sacrifices. Their degrees, by definition, imply content expertise. Those factors make some individuals, not all, arrogant at times. That can be a difficult personality to lead. Assume the role of chief executive officer of a hospital (CEO). You were at one time a banker, not a clinician. You are the highest authority at your facility. Step 1 Proceed to page 276 in your books New Leadership for Today's Health Care Professionals. Read the case study "Conflict of Interest or Quality of Patient Care?". You are not only a CEO, you are the CEO of Cutting Edge Hospital. As CEO, everyone in the organization answers to you including the Chair of Surgery, Dr. Richards. Dr. Richards is unable to solve this situation with Dr. Justus so turns to you for help and guidance. One assumption I want you to make which is not stated in the case, Dr. Justus is one of those physicians who is extremely arrogant. How can you, the CEO, step in and help to resolve this situation? Use the questions that follow the case study to help guide you. Below I have provided you with information on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. This act does pertain to your case study. https://medicalexecutivepost.com/2008/01/09/sarbanes-oxley-and-the-healthcare-industry/ (Links to an external site.) http://www.soxlaw.com/ (Links to an external site.) Step 2 After you have described how you help resolve this situation, reflect on how you truly would have handled the situation. • How would your personality have dealt with an arrogant physician? • Would you have gotten mad? • Do you understand Dr. Justus' position or do you think he is wrong? • Would you have cringed internally to have had to handle this situation or would you have flown head first into it? • Would your reaction have been thoughtful and studied or immediate and "knee jerk"? • A CEO is a jack of all trades, master of none in a sense. Would you have researched your response? If so, how? You have taken a personality quiz and done activities in this course that have made you assess your own personality, team storming skills, and priorities with the Myers Briggs personality test, group project, and the "Which Came First, The Chicken or Egg (the Patient or the $)?" discussion. Be sure to tie your past work to this paper. Go into specifics of the Myers-Briggs testing and how you feel it applied in this situation. The learning goal is to make you self aware. A good leader is a self aware leader. Requirements • 10 pages (this does not include the title page or sources page) o 6 pages dedicated to the case o 4 pages dedicated to the reflection and Myers Briggs information • APA format, no abstract necessary • 8 sources which should include the following o your textbook o the Myers-Briggs webpage o one of the Sarbanes-Oxley webpage I have provided a rubric to help guide your work. The following document highlights how your project should be formatted. Project Guidelines
